The Gambian Society in New York, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable community-based organization with the mission of helping the Gambian immigrant community in the New York metropolitan area adjust to life in the United States by providing resources and support in health care, education, culture, and economics.

Founded by a group of dedicated Gambian immigrants in November 1994, the Society was incorporated in the state of New York on November 6th 1995. Our office relocated in August 2009 from 1230 Jerome Avenue, to its new headquarters at 1500 Boston Road, in the Crotona Park section of the Bronx.

In our decades of continuous service and outreach to the Gambian immigrant community, the Gambian Society has provided a host of absolutely free services to families and individuals including our Adult Literacy Program, which by far has been the most popular and successful of our endeavors. The Gambian Society in New York has been significantly successful in serving recent African immigrants (particularly women) who had little opportunity for formal education in their homelands. We have partnered consistently with the Community Advisory Board of the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation, the New York State Assembly, and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
